Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernd Friedrich

Professor Friedrich studied non-ferrous metallurgy at the RWTH Technical University of Aachen. He defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled “Electrolytic refining of recycling-tin using three dimensional-electrodes” on 1988. From 1988 to 1992 Dr. Friedrich worked as the Head of R&D department and from 1992 to 1995 as a Head of profit center “Hydride-technology and smarts materials” at GFE, Nuremberg, Germany. From 1995 to 1999 he was plant manager at Varta Batterie AG in Hagen, Germany and Ceska Lipa, Czech Republic. In 1999 Professor Friedrich became the Head of IME Process Metallurgy and Metal Recycling, chair and department of the RWTH Technical University of Aachen. His specialisation areas include; vacuum metallurgy, electrometallurgy, plasma-technology, metallurgy of special metals (e.g. refractory metals), technology of alloys, metal powders, hydrometallurgy, sustainable recycling processes, waste water and residue treatment, applied electrochemistry and electroplating. He is the author of numerous scientific papers, published in internationally acknowledged journals.
